Services
Data Measurement and Logging
Small to medium desktop data measurement and logging solutions, using LabVIEW, which might involve several sensors logging to file or a portable single instrument to laptop.
Instrument Panels and Boxes
Panels and boxes to your own specifications for process measurement or control. Including internal wiring and cabling. Liaison with third party for approvals to UKCA, CE, PUWER, HASAW, ESAW regulations where required, including creation of Technical File.
Prototype Electronics
Small one-off prototype electronic circuits and pcbs designed and made: analogue, digital, embeded application.
Repair to Lab Equipment
Repairs to out of warranty laboratory equipment, cable replacement, fault finding, manufacturer agreed repairs. Liaise with manufacturers on repair requirements, costs, parts, lead times. Pack and return to manufacturer service if required.

PAT Testing
Portable Appliance Testing for a range of environments including: workshops, shops, offices, hotels, dog groomers, hairdressers, estate agents, cafes, mobile disco's, house lets hmo's etc. and specialising in research workplaces that may require awareness of Risk Assessment, Method Statements and PPE in higher risk work areas.
PAT testing is not a legal requirement, however, workplaces, business owners and facility managers have to ensure that they follow specific health and safety rules, and PAT testing is the best way to ensure that all of your electrical equipment is deemed safe and meets the requirements of the Electricity at Work Regulations.
Over half of fires in the UK are caused by electrical faults many of which could be prevented by electrical safety inspection and testing.
Your insurance may depend on PAT testing being done at specific intervals and may be invalid if you do not inspect and test at all.

Process Measurement and Control
Do you need a benchtop process/experiment measured and or controlled. Eg pressure, temperature, strain, speed? We can provide a complete solution from sensors through to datlogging and working with a 3rd party to provide any approvals required to meet workplace safety legislation.
LabVIEW Applications
Small desktop LabVIEW applications to measure, display and log to file process variables: eg, pressure, temperature, strain, displacement, PH and to read data from instrumentation via RS232,485 Modbus, HART, ethernet etc.

More About Me
I graduated with a BSc in Applied Physics with Microelectronics from Napier University in Edinburgh and have nearly 30 years experience as a senior electronics research technician at Heriot-Watt University and five years supporting sensor design and manufacture with a large electronics company and so am qualified to provide you with short term support for your laboratory, engineering group or startup venture until you have your own staff or to free up your existing team members to focus on other areas.
My responsibilities included the design, build calibration, documention and maintenance of measurement and control solutions for petroleum and geo-energy research groups.
I am familiar with wide a range of technologies relating to research and lab equipment: LabVIEW software, sensors (pressure, temperature, strain, displacement, pH, motor speed, liquid level), electronic schematic capture.
Electrical safety was an important responsibility ensuring that mains powered equipment and appliances were safe to use in the workplace as required by PUWER and Electrical Safety at Work legislation. Areas covered ranged from research laboratories with high pressure, high temperature petrochemical cells, chemicals and load frames to offices.The importance of working carefully in lab areas with minimal disruption to research activities is well understood.
